The buildings have fallen into a state of disrepair
A Grade II* listed house in Liverpool is among ten historic buildings across the country deemed to be in need of "rescue."
The buildings accompany the extraordinary Grade I-listed church, described by Pevsner architectural guides as “the most beautiful Victorian church of Liverpool”. The buildings were commissioned by the Liverpool stockbroking dynasty, the Horsfall family, which funded seven churches across Merseyside; and the vicarage and hall were in fact built in the same street as the benefactors lived.
According to the society, both the vicarage and the hall are in a very poor state and require immediate works of remediation and repair to ensure that they are secure from weather and intruders. Each of the sites in the list of ten are in need of rescue and repair is Grade II-listed or above, meaning they are subject to regulations protecting their historical and architectural significance, but the charity said in some cases it feared this was not enough.
“Their restoration and reuse make huge commercial sense. They are attractions in themselves. They are already destinations. They should be part of local pride.
