Emergency services scrambled to Comely Bank Road in the Stockbridge area after the alarm was raised at around 3.15pm on Tuesday.
A number of uniformed officers could be seen in attendance alongside a bomb squad.The road has now reopened and there is no risk to the wider public.
Top news stories today A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "All roads have reopened after the removal of an item of historic ordnance found on Comely Bank Road. "The incident was reported around 3.15pm on Tuesday, July 2. The item has been removed to be safely disposed of by Explosive Ordnance Disposal and there was no risk to the wider public."
