Aviationa authorities in several countries have ordered airlines to ground Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes after an aircraft crashed in Ethiopia – four months after a similar crash in Indonesia.
There are 350 Boeing 737 Max 8 in operation worldwide, being flown by 54 operators, including five in the UK.Travellers can check which airlines fly the plane via Boeing’s website. The same model, flown by Lion Air, crashed off the coast of Indonesia in October, killing all 189 on board.In both cases, the aircraft showed ‘erratic’ speed before the crash, investigators said.
The 737 is the best-selling airliner in history, and the Max, the newest version of it with more fuel-efficient engines, is a central part of Boeing’s strategy to compete with European rival Airbus.
