Anyone receiving the email is told to not engage and report it immediately
HM Revenue and Customs has issued an alert over a new scam it’s detected - and said people could have their personal details stolen. The HMRC said people were being targeted in a new email scam - which asks people to scan a QR code.
“HMRC will never ask you to submit personal information via a QR code. If you have received this email, do not engage, and report it to us using the link below.” The reporting link is found by clicking here. You’ll need to give your email address. To report it you’ll need to sign in through the government online gateway here.
