HMRC is urging people to fill gaps in their National Insurance records by the deadline of April 5

State pensioners have been issued a crucial two-month warning, as they have the opportunity to add up to £60,000 to their pension pot. His Majesty's Revenue and Customs is encouraging individuals to fill any gaps in their National Insurance records by April 5, 2025, potentially increasing their pensions significantly.

HMRC unveiled an online service last April that enables people to verify their NI record for discrepancies and ascertain whether making additional payments could enhance their State Pension. Since its introduction, over 37,000 individuals have made top-ups amounting to more than 68,000 years, equivalent to £35 million.

Living another decade post top-up could elevate the pension pot by an extra £60,000. Angela MacDonald, Second Permanent Secretary and Deputy Chief Executive at HMRC, has stressed: "There are just two months left to check and fill any gaps in your National Insurance record from 2006 onwards to boost your State Pension entitlement. Don't delay - it is quick and easy to check your National Insurance record on GOV.UK and it could help your finances in retirement.

Pensioners can utilise the HMRC app to review their NI record and purchase any missing NI years before the April deadline. Your record will display each year from the age of 16 and will indicate 'Full year' or 'Year is not full', with a link for further details.
