As well as those 1000 jobs remaining in East Kilbride for longer, 1760 full-time equivalent HMRC employees could now stay in Queensway House at Centre 1 until 2031 as the lease there was extended until that time. The delay in FCDO's move to Glasgow also means that staff at Abercrombie House will stay in East Kilbride longer than initially planned.
At the time of the announcement, the UK Government said that the FCDO was "growing its presence and number of staff in Scotland". To widen their future talent pool, it was to relocate to a modern building in Central Glasgow confirming the UK Government’s long-term commitment to Scotland. “But I am further heartened by a further assurance that I have been given by the HMRC Chief Executive that they have a long-term commitment to the town, and that they will use their additional time in Queensway House to reconsider the merits of all the options in East Kilbride.
