Hojlund played nearly as many minutes in eight days as Martial has all season as the Dane now prepares for his home Man Utd debut.
“I myself think that I made a good jump-in, and I hope that there are more minutes after the national team break,” said Rasmus Hojlund of his Manchester United debut.
The south-coasters swatted United aside in a 2-1 win in the Dutchman’s first competitive game as United boss. Retrospectively, the opening losses to Brighton and Brentford - 4-0 away from home - taught Ten Hag a harsh lesson, one that spurred United onto a top three finish. In retrospect, the defeats to both were moderately less embarrassing given the terrific seasons both had. This time around against Brighton, it will be different, though, and there is a chance for revenge.
But Ten Hag will hope it is his current £72m investment that steals the show at the weekend with both clubs mindful of their respective European campaigns beginning in midweek. Hojliund will settle in more quickly with a goal in the bank. Ten Hag will be keen for Hojlund to get minutes in his legs as he plays catch-up ahead of the trip to Germany. He will also likely start against the industrious Bayerns, who captured United’s top summer target Harry Kane in the summer.
In his three Premier League appearances so far this season, he has hardly kicked a ball. Hojlund showed more in his half-an-hour stint against Arsenal than Martial has all term.
