TUI are investigating the family's claims over sun cream bought at a resort may have contributed to the issue
A 10-year-old boy returned from his family holiday to Cape Verde needing surgery after suffering extensive burns and blisters in the sun. Hector Harvey was covered in a SPF 90 sun cream bought from a shop on the resort, and despite frequent reapplication, erupted in blisters on the flight home.
"We thought we would stay in as we had no sun cream and it was our last day, but he wanted to go out and play by the pool as he had made some friends. She said Hector had the sun cream on for around half an hour before he went down to the pool and that Ben also used the sun cream, making sure Hector kept reapplying it due to the hot weather. Natalie and her eldest son stayed inside and so didn't use the sun cream.
After they landed at Birmingham Airport on Saturday, August 24, Natalie called 111 and her son was later sent to Queen's Medical Centre. It was found that Hector was suffering from nine per cent burns and was covered in large blisters. The family are incredibly frustrated that the sun cream was supposed to protect Hector but instead left him worse off.
