Holly Willoughby has revealed in her memoir, Reflections , that she struggles with ' micro controls ', which can trigger her 'anxiety and sensitivity'. The This Morning presenter, who celebrates her 44th birthday today, explained that these triggers are often set off by seemingly insignificant events. She shared a story about an instance when her husband, Dan Baldwin , criticized her choice of television program, calling it 's***', which left her feeling unexpectedly angry.
Holly wrote: 'One of the problems with micro controls is that they are insidious; they are often opinions we have internalised without realising, and it's so hard to point at them, to call them out. This means our anxiety and sensitivity about them is triggered in other ways by something that seems quite small and insignificant.' She added: 'For example, if I'm watching TV and my husband suddenly asks, 'Why are you watching this s***?', it will spark something deep inside and I will get disproportionately angry about it. I think it's because all these other screws of control and of judgement have been tightened in ways that I am not always conscious of, and actually, a really small, unimportant thing like this sets me off.'Holly has learned to cope with frustration by focusing on 'what the situation represents' rather than the event itself. She interprets a 'flippant' remark about the TV as an attempt at 'someone trying to control' her, revealing that these kinds of issues are a genuine concern for her. Holly and Dan, who married in 2017, share three children: Harry, Belle, and Chester. The couple first met when Dan was producing Ministry of Mayhem, which Holly co-hosted with Stephen Mulhern. Dan has produced numerous hit shows, including Celebrity Juice and Virtually Famous. The couple is reported to have purchased their first home together in 2006 and celebrated their wedding at Amberley Castle in West Sussex. Fearne Cotton was a bridesmaid, and Dermot O'Leary was among the groomsmen. Holly began her career with Ministry of Mayhem, later renamed Holly and Stephen's Saturday Showdown. She joined forces with Philip Schofield in 2006 for Dancing on Ice and continues to present the show nearly two decades later, now alongside Mulhern.
