A new study by London Luton Airport reveals that many travelers experience the 'Home Alone' airport dash, with common blunders including oversleeping, forgetting essentials, and being unaware of holiday item restrictions.
The mad dash to the airport, immortalised in the classic Christmas film Home Alone , is a reality for many, with one in four travellers confessing to being late for a flight. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that nearly 20 per cent have experienced the anxiety of running late to the airport, mirroring the McCallister family's frenzied attempt to catch their holiday flight. Many admitted to oversleeping or hitting snooze on their alarm, much like the McCallisters.
While 22 per cent of respondents said sleep deprivation was a significant factor contributing to travel blunders. The study, commissioned by London Luton Airport, found that although over three quarters of people making checklists before travelling, over half still managed to forget crucial items such as boarding passes, passports, or medication. Seasonal absent-mindedness also extended to holiday-specific items, with 16 per cent leaving Christmas presents behind and 14 per cent forgetting cards. Adding to the confusion, nearly 40 per cent were unaware that festive items like wrapped gifts, snow globes, and jars of jam are restricted at airport security. In an effort to alleviate travel stress, London Luton Airport has recreated iconic scenes from Home Alone in a campaign encouraging passengers to plan ahead. The video features Kevin McCallister doppelganger Tyler Stringer applying aftershave at duty-free, dancing with mannequins, and even pranking staff with a fake tarantula. They're also offering wake-up calls for those who might be a bit too drowsy and providing complimentary items such as toothbrushes, combs, and even phone chargers. Clare Armstrong, the head of guest experience at the airport, commented: 'Our campaign offers simple tips to help passengers plan their journeys, pack effectively, and set that all-important early morning alarm
