The Home Office’s advertising campaign won’t stop EU settled status becoming ‘Windrush on steroids’
– the new post-Brexit immigration status for EU citizens living in the UK, which will open on 30 March.
The other day, I spoke to my Italian neighbour. He is in his late 80s and came to live in the UK before the country even joined the EU. This is only one example of somebody who is lucky enough to hear about the scheme. There are many EU citizens who live in less fortunate circumstances or out of the reach of a public marketing campaign.
