Charity Safe Passage claims that local councils have made more than 1,400 offers to house unaccompanied minors

that Wiltshire, Leicestershire, Brighton and Hove, along with the London boroughs of Islington, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Lewisham have each pledged to take at least 100 children.

As well as this, Birmingham has reportedly offered to support 80 more minors, Bristol 60 and Leicester 40. The paper reported that Tory-run councils made more than 400 of the offers, with 950 from Labour and the rest from SNP and independent-run authorities. run by the Home Office. It offers funding for councils to support the children. However, the Home Office disputed the figures on the pledges made and said there are more than 5,000 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children already in local authority care.

‘Protecting vulnerable children will remain our priority after Brexit and this new clause reaffirms our commitment while clarifying the role of Parliament and Government in negotiations.’ Appalling and deeply distressing that the government is threatening to scrap the right of refugee children to be reunited with their families here.
