A Dolly Parton musical featuring a gay character has been disrupted by homophobic abuse from audience members during its UK tour. The actor Stevie Webb, who stars in the production, spoke out about the incidents, expressing his disappointment and calling for an end to such behavior.

Scrolling through TikTok last weekend and, amongst the numerous cat clips and Eurovision performances that form my For You page, I came across a video from the actor Stevie Webb.

In the clip, Stevie mentioned how people had been ejected from the Manchester show, whilst another performance here had to be stopped whilst another was removed after being so disgusted that there was a gay character on stage'. He also mentioned how a performance in London was also stopped because an audience member began shouting the F slur.

With a southern belle charm, glittering outfits, and a persona that just screams for queer devotion, she’s just one disco album away from being as camp as they get. She once even entered a Dolly Parton lookalike drag contest - and lost. That’s how camp she is. Not only am I frustrated for those members of the audience, I’m also upset for the performers who have managed to create something so special about someone they idolise.
