Honda's new technical director, Romano Albesiano, expresses optimism after the team's recent Sepang test, indicating significant improvements in their MotoGP bike. Factory rider Joan Mir shares Albesiano's enthusiasm, and the arrival of Aleix Espargaro as a test rider further strengthens the team's outlook.

Romano Albesiano , Honda 's newly appointed technical director, has expressed clear optimism following the team's recent Sepang test. Honda faced a challenging 2024 season with their MotoGP bike, but the acquisition of Albesiano from Aprilia signaled a commitment to improvement. After a shakedown and a three-day official test in Sepang, factory rider Joan Mir was enthusiastic about the progress made with the Honda . 'It has been very important,' Albesiano stated about the test.

'We had many, many different versions of components. It has been huge work for the mechanics and riders, but we have found a good base to start the season.' Albesiano remained optimistic about the manufacturer's future prospects. 'Yes, definitely,' he affirmed. 'I didn't know what to expect from this test. We have a base to start, then to bring small developments step by step, which is the right way to proceed.'Albesiano is still in the early stages of his role at Honda, but he highlighted a focused approach during his winter preparations. 'We tried to focus on the right targets,' he explained. 'We organized the job for the future.' The arrival of Aleix Espargaro as a test rider for Honda after his retirement from racing with Aprilia is another positive indication. Albesiano commented on Espargaro's contribution: 'It's a great opportunity for me, and for Honda, to have two people who communicate efficiently for so long. It's easy for me to understand what he says, or to ask him to do a special test. It is a very good combination for development. He is so strong at pushing his unbelievable ability, to put energy into everything he does.' Albesiano acknowledged the shift in perspective: 'The approach to racing is different,' he said. 'I'm not saying one is right or wrong.'Honda will continue its testing program at Buriram alongside its rivals before the inaugural 2025 race in Thailand on February 28-March 2. 'The engine is one area where the guys have done great work to find a better connection,' Albesiano stated regarding the Buriram test. 'It was a good step for the riders. Now we must look for more fuel performance which is something we are slightly missing to be super-competitive.'
