When journalists justifiably asked questions of Eddie Jones, they were filling a time-honoured role, Unfortunately, they’re still waiting for answers.
At some point in the future, hopefully after long and distinguished careers, players such as Carter Gordon and Fraser McReight are going to be moved on by a Wallabies coach.
And, at that point, the fans of Gordon and those players will justifiably ask questions about why the time was right for them to go, and justifiably expect answers in return.. So, when journalists justifiably asked questions of Eddie Jones at Sydney Airport on Thursday about the nature of their exclusion, they were filling a time-honoured role of asking questions on behalf of a fan base who have followed the careers of Hooper and Cooper – an emotional investment.
Of course, there have been times when Hooper has looked as helpless as anyone against the All Blacks, but in a lean period for Australian rugby he has been a standout.Getty Rugby Australia would be in a position to query if he was granted the exit he deserved, but for the fact they set the tone here., with the infamous early morning Andy Marinos call, and then Marinos found himself heading towards the exit.Perhaps, the end will justify the means with the Wallabies this year.
