New evidence has been uncovered about the horrific death of 21-year-old water polo coach Lilie James, which may suggest her murder was a premeditated attack.
A source told The Daily Telegraph that CCTV footage captured Ms James's killer and ex-boyfriend Paul Thijssen buying a hammer leading up to the young teacher's murder.
It has led to the belief that Mr Thijssen may have needed the vehicle to leave the scene afterwards, as he did not own a car, suggesting Ms James's murder might have been planned. Mr Thijssen, 24, allegedly used Ms James's phone to text her father to pick her up from the school after she was killed. "Some of the detail, the way apparently he kind of steeled himself before entering the bathroom … she had maybe a sense that he was out there," he said.
Morri speculated the reason why Ms James's death had rocked Sydney was because it did not fit the assumed norm of domestic violence incidents.
