Esmaeel Mohamed, 19, has been jailed after the horrifying attack
A teenage knifeman who towered over his victim as he lay on the floor has been jailed. Esmaeel Mohamed had been in Wigan town centre on July 18 this year when he became increasingly distressed and unsettled. This led to the 19-year-old stealing a large knife from a shop and running into the street. Despite onlookers trying to subdue him, he pulled the knife from its packaging before approaching his victim.
Prosecutor Eleanor Gleeson told Bolton Crown Court: 'The defendant came up behind the victim and said 'give me your phone', the defendant then stabbed him in the back with the knife.' Mitigating for the defendant, Mr Colin Buckle said: 'Mitigation doesn't reveal itself easily when someone approaches someone in the street and stabs them. There was no suggestion that he was going to do anything other than plead guilty.
