Both Manchester Bee Network buses were badly mangled by the crash and the road was strewn with shattered glass.
All three emergency services scrambled to the scene - with fire crews pulling one person from the top deck of the bus."We came out because it's literally right next to our house. Within five minutes we heard the air ambulance."
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 8.45am this morning, two fire engines were called to a crash involving two buses on Rochdale Road.My brother was my rock after my son’s suicide… then he raped my daughter, 14 "Firefighters extricated one person from the upper deck of the bus and 13 casualties were transferred to North Manchester General Hospital under the care of North West Ambulance Service. "The North West Ambulance Service later raised the number of casualties to 17.
Greater Manchester Police said: "At 8.30am this morning we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between two buses. "Emergency services are at the scene on Rochdale Road, and road closures remain in place. No serious injuries have been reported."
