Staff feel there is a 'growing' funding black hole in hospice sectors across the country, with budget shortfalls reaching the point where there will be no other option than to consider service cuts.

Scottish hospice charities are calling upon the Scottish Government following a 'funding crisis' within hospices across the country, including Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

The hospice sector in Scotland provides expert palliative, end of life care and bereavement support to 21,000 adults and children each year in Scotland. To name a few in and around Glasgow, there is The Princes and Princess of Wales Hospice on Dumbreck Road, the Marie Curie Hospice on Balornock Road and the ACCORD Hospice in Paisley.

Hospices from across Scotland have now come together as part of the Scottish Hospice Leadership Group to demand urgent action by the Scottish Government to ensure the future of vital hospice care. “But with static, or in some cases, decreasing annual funding from statutory funders in the NHS and Scottish Government, we simply cannot keep providing these services.

Jacki added: “Our staff deserve to be valued and rewarded similarly to their NHS colleagues. Our patients and the people of Scotland deserve to know that our care is there for them when they need it.”
