The extremely vulnerable patient was admitted to the King's Mill Hospital suffering with hallucinations caused by his brain injury
An extremely vulnerable patient absconded from the King's Mill Hospital within hours of being admitted and was found in the reservoir opposite the facility. The 40-year-old man was taken to the site, based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, on Wednesday .
A source familiar with the case says the man has a brain injury which makes him extremely vulnerable and that he had been admitted to King's Mill because he was suffering with hallucinations. Yet the patient reportedly left the site just hours after being admitted. Technology was eventually able to identify that the man had gone into the King's Mill Reservoir, directly opposite the hospital. Emergency services including Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, the East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Police are all said to have attended the recovery operation.
The patient was still alive and after being taken back to the hospital and placed on a resuscitation ward, it was discovered that the man had miraculously suffered little damage from being in the water. The hospital is run by the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, which has confirmed it is investigating the case.
Phil Bolton, Chief Nurse at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said: "We aim to provide the best possible care to all our patients and while we are unable to comment on individual patients, we can confirm that we are looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident." It is understood the man still remains in the care of the King's Mill Hospital.
