“This proposal is strongly supported by the local community, my fellow councillors and local doctors’ medical practices – and is the option local people deserve. Options on the table included closing the site, continuing with the mothballing or creating community health and social care hubs. During the consultation, a seventh option proved popular with locals – re-opening the hospital with a small number of in-patient beds as well as some community services.
“I hope that the IJB can take on board the motion proposed to them and supported by all councillors as it would better meet the needs of people within our more remote communities.”
