Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), which runs Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, is currently subject to the largest maternity review in NHS history and a criminal investigation
Nottingham's hospitals will soon welcome dozens of new midwives in a bid to accelerate change amidst the trust's huge ongoing maternity scandal. Nottingham University Hospitals , which runs Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, is currently subject to the largest maternity review in NHS history - which was prompted by hundreds of baby deaths and injuries.
NUH said its recruitment drive earlier this year had allowed it to significantly increase its staffing levels. There are currently more than 360 midwives working at the trust, including 18 international midwives who joined earlier this year from Ghana, Iran, Hong Kong, South Africa and Zambia earlier this year.
More than 7,000 babies are born at NUH in a typical year and this new cohort will support women and their families, before, during and after birth, in hospital, community clinics and at home. Healthcare regulator the Care Quality Commission inspected the trust in June this year after it received concerns there were not enough qualified, competent and experienced midwifery staff to meet patients' care and treatment needs.
