Norovirus, also known as the winter vomiting bug, is a highly contagious stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea
As the leaves turn and the nights draw in, it seems norovirus joins the list of autumnal certainties such as Halloween , Bonfire Night , and the clocks going back.
Additionally, there are concerns about a particularly aggressive strain of norovirus exacerbating pressures on the healthcare system and potentially wreaking havoc on hospital admissions this winter season. Spotting the early signs of norovirus Norovirus exposure can occur at any time. The virus is found in vomit and faeces, meaning that if an infected individual touches food, drink or surfaces that are subsequently consumed or touched by another person, they could unknowingly transmit the bug.
Some may experience a mild fever as the virus begins to affect their body. Subsequent symptoms include nausea, which can persist for several hours, and stomach cramps. Signs of dehydration include dark or strong-smelling urine, sunken eyes, dizziness or lightheadedness, reduced frequency of urination, and feelings of thirst accompanied by a dry mouth and lips. If these symptoms are present, it's likely you're dehydrated.
