THE House Committee on Agriculture and Food has approved a bill including tobacco smuggling as economic sabotage and impose tougher penalties against it by amending some provisions of Republic Act 10845 or the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016.
The measure also seeks to impose penalties as provided under RA 10845 in the smuggling of tobacco products. “The tobacco industry is a common source of income for many Filipinos. This contributes to around 516,000 labor force in 2019 and around 2.2 million Filipinos generated earnings from the industry.
