President’s veto of bill to block national emergency declaration at US-Mexico border upheld after long-shot vote fails
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and representative Joaquin Castro, a Democrat from Texas, wrote the resolution to terminate the president’s emergency declaration, which just failed to secure the two-thirds majority vote needed. In a statement, Pelosi and Castro said: Both chambers of Congress—a Democratic House and a Republican Senate—resoundingly rejected the President’s sham emergency declaration by passing H.J.Res.46. This will provide significant evidence for the courts as they review lawsuits.
