Following a marathon session that resulted in the passage of a crucial Internet funding bill, House lawmakers on Thursday passed several bills relating to contraceptives, storage units, and cell phone tracking data.
JUNEAU, Alaska -
Citing travel limitations can create barriers for women to access reproductive health care — like those facing women in the commercial fisheries industry — the bill would allow up to a 12-month supply of prescription contraceptives. Eastman introduced many failed amendments to the legislation, but Rep. Sarah Vance, R-Homer, was able to pass an amendment that offered protection for people with religious practices that would be burdened by insurance coverage legislation.“Whenever we enforce state law in a manner that burdens a person’s religious practices, we should always side with the freedom of religion for that person and that’s why I will be supporting this amendment,” Rep. Frank Tomaszewski, R- Fairbanks, said.
The bill would require telecommunications companies to immediately respond to law enforcement requests for location information of victims who are in jeopardy of death or serious physical harm.
