The 74-year-old told the BBC that the news had given him 'a bit of street cred' as the British public often regard him as 'cosy and pretty harmless' rather than 'a dangerous subversive imperialist'.
Gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh has joked he has gained 'a bit of street cred' after North Korea's state TV channel blurred his jeans during a BBC show.
He said: 'It's taken me to reach the age of 74 to be regarded in the same sort of breath as Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart. Titchmarsh compared himself to the likes of Elvis Presley who wore trousers 'generally considered by those of us of a sensitive disposition to be rather too tight' He said: 'I'd never thought of myself as someone who was likely to lead the youth of North Korea astray.
This clip from the same episode aired in North Korea in 2022 shows Titchmarsh's jeans were also blurred from TV audiences In the segment, Mr Titchmarsh is seen at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, digging into the gardening techniques of the 17th century. During certain wide shots of the episode, a blurring effect can clearly be seen around the 74-year-old's denim jeans.
The 74-year-old admitted that he thinks the British public often regard him as 'rather cosy and pretty harmless' 'This falls into the latter category. They have these short little features on non-controversial topics.'Dr Who, Top Gear and Teletubbies are all apparently deemed suitable be shown on North Korea's tightly-controlled state TV.
While Top Gear is likely to be censored before being broadcast, there should be no such problem with the Teletubbies In 2022, Kim Jong-un banned mullet hairstyles and skinny jeans over fears that 'decadent' Western culture will influence young North Koreans.
