After 30 years, the while knuckle ride has been reimagined for a new generation as Nemesis Reborn
Regarded by many as the UK's top rollercoaster, Nemesis at Alton Towers has recently had a complete facelift and has reopened under the new name, Nemesis Reborn.
The attraction was the brainchild of celebrated rollercoaster designer John Wardley. During its original incarnation the ride has travelled over 800,000 miles and carried more than 52 million people. Alton Towers is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its iconic Nemesis rollercoaster by sharing a treasure trove of unearthed photos documenting its construction three decades ago. The photographs show the construction of the iconic rollercoaster and artwork being created.
"Nemesis, though, was different - from its grunge-inspired branding to its upside-down loops, it was clear we were dealing with something much closer to the coasters some of my mates from school were enjoying on trips to Florida. The celebration of Nemesis' legacy follows the incredible scenes at the park this weekend when Nemesis Reborn was officially unveiled. It has seen the entire 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track - with its iconic corkscrews, nerve-shredding drops and four full inversions - replaced.
In addition, new state-of-the-art audio visual technology including a giant blazing eye ringed by razor sharp teeth brings the creature that gives the ride its name vividly to life. On setting foot in the resort’s Forbidden Valley visitors are plunged into an unrivalled immersive experience as the giant beast seeks vengeance.
