Criminals are taking advantage of security cameras' access to the internet, putting people at potential risk. 9News

Symantec's chief technology officer in the Asia-Pacific region, Nick Savvides, said sites of this sort had existed for a long time, and there were more out there.Another shows a business owner dealing with cash.

"What is illegal is when someone then accesses that maliciously. The problem we have with computer crime is, it's very difficult to prosecute, it's very difficult to get information about who's conducted it." He said criminals could use their camera access as a launching point for an attack on the owner's systems, monitoring network activity and capturing usernames and passwords.People are advised to change the default passwords and keep their software updated.

"The first thing is, ensure that your camera and your connected devices always stay up to date. One of the big problems we have is that people set them up and they never go back to check if there are any updates for the camera or those devices," Mr Savvides said. "The second thing I would say is, ensure that you have good passwords, don't use the default passwords."
