A broken valve 'may have allowed animal waste or contaminated groundwater' to enter the water supply in Brixham, an MP saysSouth West Water believes it has identified the cause of the Brixham water parasite outbreak in Devon that left people in the area with a severehave fallen ill with cryptosporidiosis, with more than 100 others having reported symptoms to their GP in the past week.

Local Conservative MP Anthony Magnell, who attended a meeting with government environmental officials and South West Water boss Susan Davy on Thursday, told reporters the valve “may have allowed animal waste or contaminated groundwater to enter the local supply”. South West Water initially denied there was a problem with the water, but ordered residents to start boiling their water on Wednesday afternoon, alongside providing bottled water for drinking.Residents have been told to keep boiling their tap water for at least another six days.
