This year sees the global event coincide with the coronavirus pandemic, but EarthHour offers an opportunity to connect with others and inspire hope for the future.
If you’re not a long-time eco-activist, Earth Hour may have passed you by in previous years. First started by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007, it’s an annual event that sees millions of people, businesses and major landmarks around the world switch off their lights for an hour in support of nature and our planet. Needed nmore than ever, this year’s Earth Hour has gone digital due to the coronavirus pandemic, with in-person events being cancelled in favour of online meet-ups.
Coronavirus is the focus of our attention at the moment and rightly so, but it’s essential that we don’t forget about the climate crisis and the action required to preserve our planet. The easiest way to participate is to simply switch all the lights off in your house. Coordinate with your friends via Zoom and set the table to make it feel special. And don’t forget to share a photo on Instagram to let everyone know what you’re doing.
