It’s hard enough to find a moment that my old uni friends and I can all meet, so I was really excited to see them this weekend. We went for lunch, but two of them brought their toddlers, which meant the kids were the entire focus, and I left feeling frustrated and lonely.
We want to be friends as well as mothers, as well as lovers, as well as respected at work, as well as flirted with in pubs, as well as people who sit with three different drinks in front of them at a nice table in town and talk about exactly what was wrong with the ending of that film and what kind of sex everyone’s having at the moment. The problem then, for most of your friends, is probably not that they don’t want an adult-only lunch, but that it seems impossible to organise one.
