“The world is round but I am flat. As such, bras have been my struggle for years and years.”

I came to this realisation after years of attempting to manifest a full-on Hooters rack with endless wire and padding. After about two years of working at, I chucked my bras entirely. I work in a fashion magazine’s office with mainly women, meaning my ability to experiment with outfits that would otherwise result in a call to HR is pretty high.

In some cases, maybe I did actually look better, too. But after years of freeing the nipple, I finally put on a bra this past month after the spring/summer 2023 shows in New York. This season felt especially overwhelming – every designer, it seemed, was going more sheer and scantily clad than the last. I needed a fresh start.

Over the years, I’ve adopted a youthful look. It’s Y2K on speed, the Noughties on steroids. I’m the troublemaker in whatever ’00s teen dream film you’re watching. Low-slung. Bright. Extremely sheer. Something in my wardrobe sent me over the edge this season.
