John Caudwell once splashed £1.8m on a helicopter but said that wasn't much for a billionaire
Born in Birmingham in 1952 John Caudwell began an engineering apprenticeship at Stoke-on-Trent’s Michelin Tyre factory before launching his own car dealership in the mid 1980s. Branching out into thehe transformed a small dealership into a major wholesale distributor, increasing turnover from £13m in 1991 to £1bn in 2000.
Not in that way no. I wanted financial stability because of my dad’s illness. He had a stroke when I was 14 and couldn’t work anymore. My mother was working 50 hours a week and looking after two kids and her disabled husband, and I didn’t want that for my family.
