Channel 5 's 'When Evil Came To Rochdale' explored the history of 'SRAs'. READ MORE:A chilling tale of how overzealous social workers fuelled by 'satanic panic' led to innocent parents across the UK having their children ripped away from them has been explored in a new documentary.

A chilling tale of how overzealous social workers fuelled by 'satanic panic' led to innocent parents across the UK having their children ripped away from them has been explored in a new documentary Speaking in the documentary, Jayne Atherton, a former journalist at the North Manchester Express, said that in 1990 she was contacted by desperate parents who hoped the media could help. .

'I immediately told my editor and got in my car to meet this couple. I found a nice semi-detached, neat house, and a neat couple.'.'They described the most astonishing story, of them being accused of subjecting their children to ritualistic, satanic abuse,' she added. 'Towards the end of 1989, there's a six-year-old boy who is apparently exhibiting disturbed behaviour,' Richard Scorer, a specialist abuse lawyer explained.Months later, the boy and his sister - who kept talking about ghosts and being locked up - were spoken to social services.

This was the start of an extremely painful 10 year for six families, who were accused by social services of satanic ritual abused against their children. Anthropologist Jean La Fontaine was commissioned by the Government to write a report about the scale of satanic abuse in the UK. Footage from the interviews in Rochdale shows adults asked leading questions as the children cried, which experts in the documentary called 'concerning'.

Just as the Rochdale abuse scandal came to a close, parents in Orkney faced their own nightmare, when 'satanic panic' took over the islands. A judicial inquiry by Lord Clyde fiercely criticised the police, social workers and other agencies involved. Some of the children - now adults - have sued the council in the years since.

But when she and Ricky split, they became embroiled in an ugly custody battle, with allegations of violence on both sides. One parent, also explained how she, dropped her children off one cold winter’s morning in early 2015, another mother pulled her aside. 'There’s something you need to know,’ she said. ‘The class list . . . it’s been put online.’

The allegations dropped like a bomb, leaving parents distraught and children desperately confused. Some of the parents falsely accused of being Satanists, like Sam, were inundated with terrifying threats from self-appointed online vigilantes. They felt forced to home-school their children, or make them carry tracking devices and alarms in case someone attempted to kidnap them.

The police quickly closed the investigation. They didn’t even question Abraham about the children’s allegations. The custody case with Ricky, Ella’s former partner, moved over to the family courts, where Ella chose to represent herself. Sabine had accused these admittedly secretive courts of stealing hundreds of children away from their families.

She also published an 11-page-document called Mass Child Sex Abuse In Satanic Ritual Abuse And Sacrifice Cult. This was the corrupted list of the personal details of the 175 people supposedly involved in abuse. Sabine and Ella had filled it with lurid allegations, identifying specific parents and teachers who they said were the ringleaders.

This information all appeared online during Ella’s case with her ex-husband Ricky in the family law courts. The judge was furious — and sent police officers to her house to get an explanation. In May 2015, Karen and her internet squadron founded a blog called Hoaxtead — a pun on ‘hoax’ and ‘Hampstead’.
