Following AlighieriJewels first runway show in an ornate chapel, its founder Rosh Mahtani explains how her brand – and latest collection – has been designed to transcend cultural divides.

As jewellery brand Alighieri’s first runway show began last night, this country appeared to be falling apart: parliament was undergoing the most curious revolution it had seen in living memory, while conversations about the national identity crisis that is Brexit loomed overhead. Accordingly, the manner in which brand founder Rosh Mahtani conceived of her collection couldn’t have proven more relevant.

Accordingly, the “show” she presented appeared more like a ritual than a runway, with women of all ages walking slowly and silently through an ornate chapel. Mahtani has built a cultish following around her brand, and here appeared her acolytes: barefoot in white robes, their limbs strung with layers of golden chains or encircled by anklets, their hair plaited with brooches and hands clutching strings of necklaces.
