After a not-so-eventful race to the top, Liz Truss was announced as Britain's next Prime Minister. She is now the fourth PM to be elected in the UK within the last twelve years and one of her first tasks will be to tackle the cost of living crisis.
Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbench MPs, made the formal announcement on Monday.
In a break with tradition, Mr Johnson and his successor Ms Truss will go to see the Queen at Balmoral in Scotland for the appointment of the new prime minister rather than Buckingham Palace. She will be greeted by the Cabinet Secretary at the door of No 10 and get clapped in by staff before heading into the Cabinet Room to receive security and intelligence briefings and be handed the nuclear codes.The change in procedure could delay the highly-anticipated reshuffle, which could be pushed into the late evening if Ms Truss wants to meet and greet her new team in person instead of over the phone.
