After three games in three different time zones last summer, Man United learnt lessons from that flawed pre-season for their most recent tour.

The players strolled around unrecognised and some unwound at a nearby coffee shop without any fuss.
Senior United sources concede mistakes were made with the scheduling for the 2023 tour. The players were designated one day off in San Diego but the feeling was the six-hour round trip to Houston to play Real Madrid, where Mainoo was injured after 74 seconds, threw their preparations. The mood has been sunnier on tour this year. A year ago, Mason Greenwood was bubbling under the surface and United's tone-deaf handling of that delicate matter set the tone for a season of crises. That was compounded by an ill-advised interview conducted by a senior staff member that was the start of a fraught club-press relationship throughout the campaign.
