London’s Metropolitan Police are undertaking the largest reform of culture and standards in 50 years

With more than 44,000 officers and staff, the Met is the UK’s largest police service, with 25 per cent of the total police budget for England and Wales. This compares to Warwickshire, which is overseen by just 1,100 police officers.1,247 Police community support officersAt present, of the Met’s 34,207 officers, 201 are suspended, while around 860 are on restricted duties.
These figures exclude the City of London, which has a separate police force comprising just under 900 officers.A police officer on restricted duties may have some of their responsibilities removed while investigations into their conduct are under way. These may include limiting contact with the public, suspension from police driving activities, restricted access to intelligence systems , and not engaging in work with children or vulnerable adults.
If a police officer is suspended, they will have their powers to carry out the duties of an officer removed.
