Manchester council spends more on Christmas lights than any other local authority in England, according to the figures

Greater Manchester 's 10 councils are set to spend around more than half a million pounds on Christmas lights this year.

In the North West of England, the reduction in Christmas lights budgets has been larger though, with a 6.61 per cent cut compared to the total spent last year. Manchester council cut its budget for Christmas lights by even more with a 12 per cent reduction for 2024. Bolton has also reduced its spending on Christmas lights by more than 8 per cent to £82,910. Last year the council spent £90,539.
