Covid restrictions preventing people mixing had led to flu cases plummeting, but a surge is expected this winter as people without immunity mingle more freely indoors.

NHS England also announced plans to expand falls response services so people are treated in their homes, avoiding unnecessary trips to hospital where possible.The NHS says the move could free up around 55,000 ambulance trips each year, with a quarter of all category three and four ambulance callouts in January this year relating to falls.
