Dubbed the 'trial of the century', Simpson was acquitted and cleared of double murder charges by a Los Angeles jury in 1995
Prior to the 1995 trial, Simpson – nicknamed “The Juice” – had been one of America’s most popular athletes during the late 60s and early 70s, starring as a running back in for the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.His ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were found dead outside Nicole’s Los Angeles home on the night of June 12, 1994. Simpson was the main murder suspect.
During the trial prosecutors argued that Simpson killed his ex-wife in a jealous fury, while the defence said the former NFL star was framed by racist police. Speaking after the verdict, Simpson said: “I will pursue as my primary goal in life the killer or killers who slayed Nicole and Mr Goldman. They are out there somewhere. I would not, could not and did not kill anyone.”
