"That's another thing. How come I’m the only guy who’s got these pictures? All the music photographers knew who everybody was in town, but what I’m saying is, the white photographers would come out for the Jackson 5, they would come out for Diana [Ross] maybe, but they weren’t coming out for the Whispers and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes," he told. "They weren’t down at the Crenshaw Palace for Billy Paul. Honestly, they weren’t coming out foruntil Ally McBeal.

Talamon's archives however are void of clichés often seen in the white representation of the Funk, Soul and R&B scene. In one acutely intimate image from L.A's Funk Fest in 1977, Louis Johnson is seen thrusting his blistered thumb into the camera with a closeness few could muster. Talamon had extensive access to the infectious scene, and his photos show both the glamour and grit of the moments he experienced.
