In 2012, Portsmouth were two weeks away from liquidation. This is a proud club which was saved by its fans and the good times are finally back at Fratton Park, even if nobody is daring to dream just yet
Banning Green Brigade will divide Celtic fans - we love the atmosphere but we're sick of finesclub to go into administration, the subsequent points deduction merely rubber-stamping a disastrous relegation with debts of around £117m. Their problems were transparent: overpaid big-name players with little connection who had grossly underperformed.
That relegation season was not Portsmouth’s nadir. Too much damage had been done by too many for too long for there to ever be a natural floor for their fall. By the summer of 2012, there was a real chance of liquidation. A second administration would follow, this time in League One as they suffered consecutive relegations to hit the fourth tier for the first time for 33 years.

Hughes was tasked with overseeing the appointment of a new manager when Portsmouth sacked Danny Cowley in January, and there was surprise when John Mousinho, the youngest manager in League One, got the job.
