Why Queen Maeve's story in TheBoys season 3 finale isn't as progressive as you might think
in London's next Pride march just yet though. Sure, Maeve's story here is basically the opposite of Bury Your Gays, but it's not quite as impressive when you consider the wider context of her journey. In both seasons two and three, the Amazonian queen is missing completely for large chunks of time, which means that her romance with Elena is deeply underdeveloped.
Time and time again, Maeve is relegated to the background in general too, only trotted out when the writers decide to engage with queer themes or simply need someone who's strong enough to physically fight Homelander. And now, following this admittedly great moment for Maeve, the writers are seemingly writing her out of the show for good. Not only has Maeve somehow lost her powers following that explosion, she's also decided to go off the radar completely, which suggests that she will take even more of a back seat, or perhaps even leave completely.
Just in case you thought Vought weren't going to let that happen, the finale then cuts to Ashley deleting the video of Maeve's escape from the security footage. So, unless Homelander seeks her out, it looks like Maeve's survival will remain a secret. It seems safe to assume then that Queen Maeve is indeed being written out of the show, or at least taking on an even smaller role.
Wonder Woman wouldn't stand for any of that, so why should Queen Maeve – or even we – have to, for that matter?
