Ireland is experiencing another heatwave this week, as the country sizzles in temperatures of up to 29C.

Older people and anyone with chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney disease need to be extra careful to drink enough water. Illnesses like Covid, colds and flu can also put you at risk of dehydration - and if you’ve been vomiting or had diarrhoea you need to be replacing that lost fluid. Treatment Drinking lots of water and eating foods high in water, like cucumber and melon, is a great way to stave off dehydration. Eight glasses of water a day is the general guideline, but you may need more depending on your body type, the environment and your activity levels. Producing lots of clear, dilute urine is a good indication that you're well-hydrated.
