It's time to get spooooky
It’s likely by now you’ll have sorted your Halloween costume andThankfully, there are lots of Halloween-themed treats to sink your teeth into, including a certain boozy beverage that seems incredibly apt for the occasion – a Zombie cocktail.
So, if you’re having friends over this weekend, serve them up one of these – not only will you be bang on the theme, but the tasty drink will impress too. The history of the Zombie cocktail recipe is pretty interesting too – as back in the 1900s it was considered so strong that bartenders were only allowed to serve two per customer.
In terms of origins, the cocktail was the brainchild of Donn Beach – who created the drink for a customer complaining about a bad hangover. According to the original recipe, the cocktail included three different kinds of rum, lime juice, falernum, Angostura bitters, Pernod, grenadine, and ‘Don’s Mix’ – a combination of cinnamon syrup and grapefruit juice. The combination of fruity flavours masks the high alcohol content – so it’s easy to see why drinks were limited with this particular cocktail.
