TWO officials of Human Rights Watch (HRW) have condemned a court decision to deny former senator Leila de Lima bail.
HRW senior researcher Carlos Conde said on Twitter on Wednesday that the decision prolongs de Lima's suffering.'The denial of bail for Leila de Lima prolongs her suffering and worsens her political persecution,' he tweeted.'The international community, which has been assured by President [Ferdinand] Marcos [Jr.
] of human rights reforms, should not stand for this and should denounce this unjust and cruel ruling,' he added.Replying to Conde on Twitter, HRW's deputy Asia director Phil Robertson agreed.'The continued denial of bail for [De Lima] is outrageous and unacceptable, and should be publicly decried by all like-minded diplomats in Manila and their capitals,' he tweeted.The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 256 denied De Lima's bail request on Wednesday.
