A fire ripped through a block of flats in east London last night, as 20 people were evacuated and one person taken to hospital.
Dramatic footage shows firefighters using a 32-metre ladder to tackle the blaze, which was coming from an eight floor apartment.
Around 20 people were evacuated from the building in New Village Avenue, and one person taken to hospital.Around 70 firefighters from Plaistow, East Ham, Greenwich, Shoreditch and surrounding stations were rushed to the scene at around 10.30pm last night. They managed to get the blaze under control by 11.48pm and an investigation is now underway to find out what started it.
Describing the equipment used in the operation, Station commander Matt Williams said: ‘One of the brigade’s new 32-metre ladders from Old Kent Road Fire Station was used as a water tower and crews also used drones to provide an aerial view of the incident and increase situational awareness.
