People are being urged to avoid the area this evening
Firefighters, police and paramedics descended on the scene in Wool Road, Dobcross, Oldham , at about 7.05pm this evening . Eyewitnesses also reported seeing an air ambulance land nearby.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were responding to a report for the concern of the welfare of a woman. Firefighters gave "trauma care" to the woman after she was rescued from the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.Paramedics then took over her care. The extent of her injuries is not yet known.In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We are currently responding to a concern for welfare at Dobcross in Saddleworth.
"A scene is in place to allow us and emergency service colleagues to deal with the incident, and we advise members of the public to avoid the area." A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 7.05pm this evening , two fire engines from Oldham and Stalybridge fire stations were called to an incident on Wool Road, Oldham.
“Crews quickly arrived at the scene and liaised with Greater Manchester Police to administer trauma care to one person rescued from the water, before they were passed into the care of North West Ambulance."
